This course provides a comprehensive introduction to the profession of interior design and the essential design principles it entails. Students will engage in developing a design proposal tailored to a specific design brief, along with completing weekly assignments that guide them through the design process.Throughout the course, weekly lectures cover a range of topics crucial to interior design practice:
- Design Tools: Techniques for designing using construction drawings, field measurements, and scaling drawings, including digital tools. Emphasis is placed on fostering the creative process.
- Presenting Design Work: Strategies for creating effective presentation boards that communicate design concepts, from initial schematics to detailed contract documents.
- Workflow Charts: Managing project timelines, coordinating product deliveries and installations, and effectively meeting client expectations.
From the first class, students will dive into a hands-on project focusing on a commercial space of approximately 1,200 square feet. Students will receive plans, photographs, and a brief that explains the design goals. Each week, students will share their progress through submitted slides, facilitating ongoing feedback and refinement of their design proposals.
