Individual attention in a supportive environment is the focus of this 7 session on-campus figure drawing course designed for students of all levels and experience. The foundations of gesture, proportions, and anatomical structures will be examined while drawing a variety of life models in different poses. Fundamental drawing techniques and sound work habits will be taught while exploring light and value, line and shape, foreshortening and composition. Formal and technical issues will be balanced with the practice of risk-taking and the pursuit of personal expression. Additionally, this course aims at developing critical thinking skills towards one’s own and others figurative work. The learning experience includes regular group instruction, individual critiques, lectures and demonstrations. This non-graded course does not require homework. Bring paper (and drawing board if available) and pencils/charcoal (or other preferred materials) to the first meeting.

This class meets in person on campus at MassArt.
