This 3-credit, 10-day intensive figure drawing course will rapidly elevate your figure drawing skills to the next level. Offering both theory and practice, students will balance traditional observational drawing instruction with drawing practice in and outside of class. Individual attention in a supportive on-line classroom is the focus of this comprehensive figure drawing course designed for students of all levels.
The foundations of gesture, proportions, and anatomical structures will be examined in the context of 2,500 years of figurative art history. Using traditional drawing mediums, students will learn and practice fundamental drawing techniques while exploring light and value, line and shape, foreshortening and composition. Formal and technical issues will be balanced with the practice of risk-taking and the pursuit of personal expression. Additionally, this course aims at developing critical thinking skills towards one’s own and others figurative work.

Course delivery will take place through daily Zoom teleconferencing meetings. Carefully tailored lectures, demos and lessons, as well as discussions, digital imagery, and group and individual critiques will prepare students for daily hands-on practical drawing sessions. Computer and Internet access required.
