Filework is a technique typically seen in the bladesmithing world to decorate the spines of knives–but that does not mean it is exclusive to ferrous metals. In this class we will translate this technique to precious metals such as sterling silver square, and pattern both rectangular as well as square stock with the goal of creating a ring and/or bracelet. Students will learn the best practices of pattern layout and planning, which will ensure that each pattern matches up with itself seamlessly when it is bent into a band.
This class meets in person on campus at MassArt.
