Feel confident painting the landscape quickly from life, alla prima, and find a newfound connection to landscape and your particular tendencies when approaching nature with paint. Working gradually up to a full palette allows you to gain a deeper understanding of color theory as it relates to natural light, space, atmosphere and color harmony. You will learn how to set up for painting outside, paint wet into wet, how to quickly capture light and color in changing and sometimes unpredictable circumstances, and how to use the elements of color to create atmosphere and depth.

Basic knowledge of oil painting techniques and color theory is preferred. Everyday will be a different adventure depending on weather, location, and time of day. So grab your sun hats and easels! We’re going outside!

This course is part of MassArt New England summer workshops, where participants immerse themselves in full days of studio work with faculty and peers. Housing is available for participants of this program.
