Students are immersed in the nuts and bolts of architectural craft and construction technology practice. Through design sketch problems, hands-on demonstrations, and readings, students focus on the most common methods of constructing building systems in wood, masonry, steel, and concrete. Constructing a full-scale model of a wood-framed structure brings the theory to life. Open to students entering MassArt’s graduate program in architecture. Others are admitted with instructor permission. Read chapters 1-5, 8-11, and 13-15 of Fundamentals of Building Construction: Materials and Methods (Edward Allen) prior to class.

This class meets in person on campus in the DMC (Design and Media Center) Woodshop.
