This online course features the following types of interaction:

  • Live meetings
  • Live critiques

Traditionally, watercolor is a light-to-dark medium. Light washes are built up gradually in order to achieve rich tones. The focus of this course is to explain that when beginning a painting with the application of pre-mixed, middle value, transparent wet-on-wet watercolor washes, artists can create images that exude “instant” atmosphere, mood and depth. This workshop is designed to enhance both creative and technical skills.

We will meet on Monday and Friday mornings as a group. During the remote classroom meetings,  the instructor will present a PowerPoint slide show of her work and specific step-by-step process, discuss how to break down and delineate values, effectively use masking fluid to save highlights, and utilize cups for paint mixing to effectively “pour” paint.

Throughout the week, the instructor will meet with students online during non-class time on a one-to-one basis (at pre-determined times) for review and critique of their work in progress. Students may also send works in-progress to the instructor as JPEGs for additional e-mail review and comments.

The second class-time session will be utilized for a group critique of the paintings created, as well as an additional demonstration and a PowerPoint presentation on subjects related to wet-on-wet watercolor.

This is an online class that will meet using Zoom.

Students meet together on Monday and Friday.  During the week they work on their projects and meet remotely individually with the instructor.
