This seven-week course aims to advance students’ evolving painting practice by providing a structured yet flexible environment for artistic exploration. The course begins with quick exercises from observation. In later weeks the focus shifts to self-directed work, students will respond to creative prompts and may incorporate their own source materials.
Students will gain confidence and independence in painting. Exercises and prompts will emphasize the relationship between form and content, inventive approaches to pictorial space, and exploration of materials and techniques. Group critique and discussion will support growth and advancement in painting skills. Intermediate painting background is suggested. Students may work in oil, acrylic, or water-based media.
This class meets in person on campus.
