We often think of wood as rigid and hard, but by adding heat, we can bend flexible, sweeping curves. It really feels like magic – suddenly you can tie a knot in a piece of wood or form the ribs of a canoe. Steam bending doesn’t have to be intimidating! We’ll focus on reliable, repeatable results using simple setups. Topics will include stock preparation, using green and kiln dried wood, and building and using bending jigs.

This workshop is a module in the course Applied Techniques in Furniture Design. Students can sign up for individual modules or the full class as a three credit class. Limited space is available in both the full semester class and the workshops.

This class meets in person on campus at MassArt.

The 3-day workshop is a module in the Applied Techniques in Furniture Making Course.
